Painting watercolor is an endless cycle of yielding to uncontrollable ideas: to surrender to those ideas, and transform them to abstractions and expressions of the soul, thus capturing the true essence of a landscape or a flower.
For me, finding the essence of a painting is based in simplicity, and is discovered through a continual peeling of irrelevant layers until I reach that core level of simple elegance- or what I term ‘beauty’. I continue to be surprised and elated when a painting reaches that finishing point where elements of color, rhythm and light converge from a field of chaos and nothingness.
My use of intense colors is balanced by the serenity of composition; abstract impressionism is contrasted with touches of realism, the use of light and shadows results in breathing life onto paper….bringing a painting to life!
